Chapter 18: The prohibition of making lost property announcements in the masjid, and what should be said by one who hears a person making such an announcement.

 

Abu al-Tahir, Ahmad ibn Amr, narrated to us: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, on the authority of Haywah, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman, on the authority of Abu Abdullah, the client of Shaddad ibn al-Haad, that he heard Abu Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever hears a man calling for something lost in the mosque, let him say: ‘May Allah not return it to you, for mosques were not built for this purpose.’” . (Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 98)

 

Zuhair ibn Harb narrated to me, Al-Muqri’ narrated to us, Haywah narrated to us, he said: I heard Abu Al-Aswad say: Abu Abdullah, the client of Shaddad, narrated to me that he heard Abu Hurairah say: I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, say something similar. (Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 99)

 

Hajjaj ibn al-Sha'ir told me, 'Abd al-Razzaq told us, al-Thawri told us, on the authority of Alqamah ibn Marthad, on the authority of Sulayman ibn Buraydah, on the authority of his father, that a man made a narration in the mosque, saying, "Who has called for the red camel?" The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, "You may not find anyone. The mosques were built for that purpose." (Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 100)

 

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Waki` narrated to us, on the authority of Abu Sinan, on the authority of Alqamah ibn Marthad, on the authority of Sulayman ibn Buraydah, on the authority of his father, that when the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, had prayed, a man stood up and said, “Who called for the red camel?” The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “You may not find anyone who called for the red camel. The mosques were built for what they were built for.” (Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 101)

 

Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, on the authority of Muhammad ibn Shaybah, on the authority of Alqamah ibn Marthad, on the authority of Ibn Buraydah, on the authority of his father, who said: A Bedouin came after the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, had prayed the dawn prayer. He put his head in through the door of the mosque and mentioned something similar to their hadith. Muslim said: He is Shaybah ibn Nu'amah, Abu Nu'amah, who narrated from him. Mis`ar, Hisham, Jarir, and others from the Kufians. (Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 102)
