Chapter 4: The virtue of building Masajid and encouragement to do so.

Harun ibn Sa`id al-Ayli and Ahmad ibn `Isa told me: Ibn Wahb told us: `Amr told me that Bukayr told him that `Asim ibn `Umar ibn Qatadah told him that he heard `Ubaydullah al-Khawlani mention that he heard `Uthman ibn `Affan say, when the people were saying about him when he built the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “You have indeed multiplied, and I am…” I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah the Most High - Bukayr said: I think he said - seeking thereby the face of Allah - Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.” Ibn ‘Isa said in his narration: “The like of it in Paradise.” (Explaining Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 29)

Zuhair ibn Harb and Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us - and the wording is that of Ibn al-Muthanna - they said: Ad-Dahhak ibn Makhlad narrated to us, Abd al-Hamid ibn Ja`far informed us, my father narrated to me, on the authority of Mahmud ibn Labid, that Uthman ibn `Affan wanted to build the mosque, but the people disliked that and preferred that he leave it as it was. So he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, says: “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him in Paradise something similar.” (Explaining Sahih Muslim Book 5 – Hadith 30)
